Croatia's second largest city, Split (200.000 inhabitants) is the administrative, cultural and transportation centre of the Dalmatian coast. With a major legacy of centuries of history that has been preserved to this day, Split is also an obligated tourist destination in Croatia. The recipe for Split's tourist success: myriad of historic monuments + kilometres of beaches + entertainment + wonderful climate, is irresistible to travelers from all continents. Visiting Split from one of villas on Croatia central coast or villas on Croatian islands in central adriatic is straightforward.

Geography
Split is situated on peninsula at which west end point lays hill Marjan, largest green zone and forested park in Split, on the north is Kastela's channel and Kozjak hill, on the east Split is connected with modern roads to the mainland and its historic roots: remains of Roman city of Salona, and finally, on the south Split faces Adriatic sea with a group of central Adriatic islands: Ciovo, Brac, Solta, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Lastovo, Drvenik and other smaller islands.

History
Split was founded around 300 A.C., not as a city but as a residential palace for retirement of Roman emperor Diocletian. Only several centuries after its foundation, Split started to expand outside of Palace's walls. Now days the palace represents Split's old city core and downtown, where visitors can see many historic monuments and details that tells the story of Split's past. No doubt the city's historic core is the ideal place to take a walk and get lost in its narrow alleys that mixes different architectural styles and surrounding us with the smell of salt from the nearby sea coast or some local dish that is being prepared in one of many small restaurants situated in centuries old buildings.

Attractions
It is advisable to plan visit to Split town and surrounding attractions upfront because many of interesting spots are dispersed. In this case you may consider taking transfer service from any of many travel agencies that exists in Split. Take into account that majority of attractions in this area can be explored together with a local tourist guide (trained and certificated professional) that costs between 100€ and 200€ per day.
Beside Diocletian palace, which is an obvious place to visit in Split, consider also Maritime Museum, located in Gripe district inside a 17th century fortress, then continue with the visit to impressive Archaeological Museum, one of the oldest in eastern Europe, built in 1820. Beside monuments from Split and Salona, also there can be seen significant remains (smaller items, like pottery, glass, coins and weapons, some of which date back to 10,000 BC.) of more than 50 archaeological sites. Another museum to visit is Ethnographic Museum and Art Gallery, located right behind Peristil square in the middle of Diocletian palace.
Beside museums and historical remains, 4 nautical marinas can be visited where you can indulge yourself with beautiful yachts. Those who like walking in the nature and to take perfect panoramic photos of Split, will enjoy visiting hill Marjan. It is a proud and joy of all Split citizens to have such a natural environment so close to the city. At the hill's top there is a ZOO.

Beaches
There are numerous beaches in Split and its wider area. Bacvice (bachvitse) beach is located in Bacvice district, very near to the city's port. It is a sandy beach in the very center of the city, very popular and visited by locals and tourists of all ages. Many cafes, restaurants, fast-food and kids game facilities are located along Bacvice's sea border.  At walking distance from Bacvice, in direction to south-east, follows many other beaches, mostly with pebbles: Ovcice (pebbles), Firule (sand), Posk (concrete slabs), Trstenik (pebbles) and Znjan (Zshnyan - pebbles and large rocks).
