Near the town is the mountain Ucka, the highest in the peninsula with 1400 feet above sea level, and which is also protected as a nature reserve. The islands of Krk, Cres, Rab and Losinj, are also part of the county, and generally are reached from the port of Rijeka. These islands are characterized by the Mediterranean climate, spectacular beaches and beautiful landscape. The largest islands are Krk and Cres, the first is connected with the mainland by a bridge length of 1,430 meters was built in 1980, and the second is nothing more and nothing less than the largest in the Adriatic.
